LFM NetView 1.1: Product Release
The introduction of LFM NetView 1.0 saw a number of real world challenges resolved. For the first time users could access high resolution laser scan from around the globe via the Internet.
In accordance with our continual development policy, LFM NetView has been improved further with the release of LFM NetView 1.1. New features ensure full colour support of laser scan data, they allow for improved navigation, enhanced security and improved measurement and annotation tools.
The core development strategy established in LFM NetView 1.0 is maintained in this latest edition. This strategy allows the data to be used at its captured resolution with connection to the full underlying point cloud dataset. It allows collaborative working, easy navigation through scans and is intuitive to use for an untrained or infrequent user.

New Features
Pipe Diameter Measurement
The ability to reliably and rapidly measure pipe diameters is a key new feature which greatly adds to the power of LFM NetView. Pipe measurement is simple; the user scribes a line along the pipe to be measured and its diameter is then calculated.
The results are displayed in the BubbleView. The diameter is shown as an annotation. Parallel lines indicate the edge of the pipe, allowing the user to visually confirm the accuracy of the results.
Width Measurement
Width Measurement allows the user to determine the perpendicular distance between a point and a plane. Users can ascertain with accuracy the distance between a chosen point and a wall or floor. The calculation of the plane belonging to the walls and floors is fully automatic.
BubbleViews within BubbleViews
Users have found the BubbleView a natural and simple way to browse through scan data. This experience is now further enhanced with a new feature that allows for improved navigation between BubbleViews. Users can now ascertain the location of adjacent scans from within the currently loaded BubbleView. Coloured symbols also indicate the distance between the scans and whether the scan would be visible or hidden from view.
Adjacent scans can be loaded from the current BubbleView with a one click motion.
A unique filtering system allows users to set a maximum distance from the current BubbleView so that only those in a specified region are shown. Users can also configure whether to 'face away' from or 'look back' towards the previous scan when navigating between BubbleViews.
Colour Support
For applications such as Forensic, Heritage and Architecture, the use of colour is becoming an important aspect of the project deliverable. Accordingly, the latest version of LFM NetView provides full colour support and a whole new degree of realism for the end user.

Fast Region Definition
LFM NetView now allows scans to be grouped according to user-defined regions. This is particularly useful where scans belong to different floors within a building or to specific functions of a process plant. Administrators can rapidly define any number of named regions and add scans to these regions.
Filtering of Scans on Key Plan
A 'Filter by Region' option allows the user to select the regions to be displayed on the Key Plan. The 'Filter by Region' and 'Filter by Name' options can be combined to form even more powerful filters.
The ability to define the regions which scans belong to and to filter scans from the Key Plan has been improved. The filter by name function has also had a number of options added. There are now options to:
- Select whether the filter matches either the whole scan name or part of it.
- Allow the user to toggle the filter between being case sensitive or case insensitive.
- Toggle whether scans that match the filter are hidden or displayed.
Collaboration Markers
To improve communications between parties whilst remotely discussing a particular feature in a Master-Slave session, a highlighter function has been added. A Master can make a single mouse click to highlight a particular area of the scan which he/she is referring to. It is then instantaneously highlighted in the Slaves.
Enhanced Security
To stop unauthorised access to data, communications between LFM NetView and LFM NetView Server are now digitally signed. LFM NetView Server will only respond to requests that it authenticates as being genuine.
When using a secure HTTP connection, LFM NetView now has configurable security levels. A user can choose the level of security certificates that they need LFM NetView to accept.
Administration and User Management Tools
Administration and user management tools have been improved, giving a new set of options for configuring LFM NetView projects. These will enhance the flexibility of the software.
There are now three levels of user privilege: Administrator, Regular or Guest. These provide control over what different users can do in an LFM NetView project.
Additional New Features
- German and Spanish Language Support.
- Configurable Font-size used by LFM NetView.
- Annotations now have attributes allowing users to see who created them and when.
