LFM Server 3.94: Product Release

The release of LFM Server 3.93 saw the introduction of the powerful new Exact Clashing feature which checks for interferences between the existing condition and the proposed CAD design.

LFM Server 3.94 continues the software evolution by allowing the user to load multiple databases simultaneously. Complimenting this feature, is a flexible demolition tool which allows unwanted data to be rapidly selected and removed from the project workspace. A number of important new CAD-links are also introduced.

Existing CAD links have been further enhanced and relations with new CAD vendors have been forged. LFM Server 3.94 includes many new tools and techniques that further improve the functionality of LFM whilst still providing a simple, intuitive and easy to use package.

New Features

  • More than one database can be loaded in any session
  • Edge Mode for viewing data
  • A Smart Demolition mode allows for rapid selection and demolition with instant visual feedback

New CAD-Links

  • SmartPlant 3D - Intergraph
  • PDMS 12.0 - AVEVA
  • AutoCAD 2010 - Autodesk
  • Walkinside - VR Context
  • MicroStation XM, V8i - Bentley

CAD-Link Enhancements

  • AutoCAD 2007, 2008, 2009 link extensively improved feature set and rendering - Autodesk

New Features

Multiple Dataset loading

For large projects, downstream users of the scan data sometimes find that critical regions have been missed or that the scope of the project has expanded. A return to site to capture data from the previously omitted region is therefore required.

The benefits of the LFM single dataset approach meant that in previous versions, the service provider would have to recreate the entire laser scan database in order to integrate new data with the existing.

The ability to load multiple databases in LFM Server 3.94 avoids this time consuming exercise. For ease of use, multiple databases can be grouped together using a linking file so that the end user is unaware of how the data was gathered.

Edge Mode

This new mode is ideal for visualising the edges of features, such as walls and pavements. Edge mode allows users to create Floor plans and elevations by tracing around the laser scan data.

Smart Demolition

A new Smart Demolition mode allows users to highlight and block out multiple regions which are to be demolished from the dataset. In doing so the user has instant visual feedback of the regions which are to be demolished. Even individual pipe runs can be swiftly selected and removed.

Smart Demolition also allows model data from MicroStation or AutoCAD to be brought back into the LFM Server environment and used in the demolition process.

Smart and easy demolition tools allow the laser scan data to be kept in synch with the as-built condition. The benefits of having accurate up to date as-built data can not be over emphasised and forms a vital part of any Owner / Operators asset management strategy.

With Smart Demolition all operations are done on a tentative basis, therefore nothing is actually demolished until the user is completely satisfied with their work. This 'blocking out' system has been designed to be fast, extremely intuitive and user friendly.

CAD Links

LFM Server CAD-Link - AutoCAD 2010

Building on the major improvements for AutoCAD 2007-9, we are pleased to announce the introduction of the LFM Server for AutoCAD 2010.

LFM Server CAD-Link - PDMS

Support has been added for the latest PDMS 12.0 SP3. Working with multiple databases is now transparently supported through the PDMS environment.

LFM Server CAD-Link - MicroStation XM, V8i

In line with our continued support for the major CAD systems, we are pleased to announce LFM Server - XM, V8i compatibility.

LFM Server CAD-Link - SmartPlant 3D

The new interface between LFM Server and SP3D blurs the gap between laser scan data and CAD. The two systems have been designed from scratch to cooperate in such a close way that the user experiences a completely seamless and integrated link between the two domains.

The interface allows for:

  • Automatic and dynamic clashing between CAD
    objects and laser scan data
  • Rapid retrieval and pick up of tie-in points
  • Rapid scan data selection based on CAD objects

LFM Server CAD-Link - Walkinside

For Process, Power & Marine users, this new interface will allow users to import massive volumes of laser scan data into Walkinside for visualisation and simulation in a 3D Virtual Reality environment. Owner/Operators can view their facilities through the eyes of a virtual human character all from the safety and comfort of the office.
